Are You A Smoker And Getting Smoker’s Lines? 2 Ways To Treat Them

If you are a smoker, it is common to get smoker's lines, also referred to as lip lines or lipstick lines. Over time, these lines can become deep and turn into wrinkles. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to treat these lines. Keep reading for two treatments you can choose.

Botox Injections

One common treatment for smoker's lines is getting Botox injections. You should see a dermatologist to have this done, or you will find that some spas will also do these injections. Botox works by preventing muscle contractions that cause the wrinkles. It does work best if the wrinkles are only visible when you are pursing your lips. The injections will prevent them from becoming much deeper.

The doctor will numb your skin first and then inject the Botox into the lines. This is not painful and does not take a long time. You will not have a lot of side effects, but you may feel a little pain in the injected area, and it may be a little red for a couple of hours. Botox starts working immediately, but it can take a few days to see the full results. After a certain amount of time, you will have to return for more Botox injections because the wrinkles will come back again. The dermatologist can tell you how long you should expect Botox to last.

Dermal Fillers

Another option you have to treat your smoker's lines is dermal fillers. These fillers can make the lines completely disappear if they are not really deep in your skin. Even if they are deep, the fillers will make them much less noticeable. The fillers will make your lip area look much smoother and hydrated. Acid fillers are often used around the mouth and lips.

The dermatologist can inject the filler directly into the smoker's lines without having to put the filler in your lips. You could, however, have your lips plumped while you are there if you prefer. How long it takes to inject the dermal fillers will depend on how many wrinkles you have. As with Botox, this does not last forever, and you will have to return for more fillers.

You should quit smoking. If you do not, the above treatments will not last as long. You may also get more wrinkles, or the wrinkles you have will become much deeper. If you need help with this, contact your doctor.
